Telephoto

Yes! This is gonna be another post with an gadget for your iPhone.
Every smartphone can take pictures nowadays, not from the best quality, to be honest. The quality of iPhone pictures is not that bad, but ofcourse the options are limited. So! Now there are several lenses available for the iPhone. For instance a macro lens for better close-up photographs. I think this is the coolest one: the Telephoto lens.

It looks super funny, but it works really as well.
It is very convenient. You can just click the lens to your iPhone and your iPhone skills are immediately improved 8 times. You can make superwide and sharp pictures with this little thing.

Why is it cool?
You don’t have to carry much with you, but you can still take pictures of very good quality. When you are travelling, at a sportsgame, at a concert or if you just have a great experience. Because the Urban Nomad travels a lot, this would be very useful to them. It is light and you can take it easy with you. It makes nice pictures for only $35! (besides the cost of your iphone of course…)

iBamboo

Back to basics! The speakers of iBamboo strengthens the sound of your iphone very clear, and this all without plugs and electricity. The first speaker produced by iBamboo is made of, as you already red the name, bamboo. The sound is beautiful, and of course it is very helpful that it is wireless so you can take it everywhere you want. A disadvantage was that bamboo is very vulnerable, so iBamboo is going to introduce something new : The iBamboo Urban. This is a model of recycled plastic. So it doens’t damage the environment. Why is this cool?
I think this is cool because of the link with the Urban Nomads. They want to travel and explore the world on an environment friendly way, but they like music so this is an perfect way for them to listen music everywhere they are. They don’t even need a plug connection.

High cuisine

Meals which you get on plane aren’t the best. That’s just subtle.
It’s tough, dry, tasteless, overcooked and often floating in fat. For people who travel often, for example to work, this is really annoying.

It’s not only about the food it self, but also because the air is very dry in aircrafts. This dries out your nasal mucus. Research has shown us that you can only smell and taste 80% of what you normally do in a pressure cabin.

The quality of the food goes down because it is already cooked on the ground, and they have to regenerate it in the air. Airlines could use steam ovens, which keep the food more moisturized.

What is it?
We can do this better, must be the thoughts of British Airways. Chef Simon Tone developed a special haute cuisine menu that will be served during the olympic games in London next autumn. His menus feature organic and fresh food.  Dishes you will see on the menu are: riclette of mackerel, hake fish pie, golden beet root and a chocolate fondant with a liquid salted caramel center.

Why is it cool?
People take care about their food nowadays. Especially for people who travel a lot it’s really annoying when the food is not tasty and healthy.  Ofcourse it don’t have to be haute cuisine, but this proofs it can be better. They will be using natural ingredients which fits the sustainability trend well. I think it’s cool that airlines think about this stuff, and that they want to improve themselves. I think more airlines will follow soon.

Edible packaging

We started with a new sector at school, we are busy with ‘Food‘ now.
When I was doing the necessary research work, I came across a great development: the edible packaging.

What is it?
This invention ensures you don’t have to throw your drink packaging away.
The professor who is working hard on this Wiki Cells project is Dr. David Edwards.  He is examining how far it is possible to create edible packaging.

The Wiki Cells will form the basis of the package.They are able to work as solid glass, but they are also suitable to consume. Different flavors can be added to the membranes, like the taste of chocolate or candy. If you don’t like the taste, you can always throw away the packaging because it is biodegradable.
Currently you can only try this at the Lab Store in Paris. This is a concept design store. The only challenge now is to make the product widely to offer.

Why is it cool?
I think this invention is a wonderful combination of food and sustainability. This is an experiment but if this can be used on a large scale, it will ensure that less waste in the world. I also think it’s cool that it has two functions, keeping the liquid inside, and that edible part. Little bit experience economy. 

Big Belly Solar

As I told you before, my projectgroup and I have to create a concept to keep the school clean and pleasant. When I was searching for special, funny and brilliant ideas to clean up, I found an article about the Big Belly Solar which made me very enthusiast.

What is it?
Big Belly Solar is a fantastic system! Because of this clever solution, bins have to be emptied fewer times. Not a little bit, no it goes up to 80%.
The bin generates electricity through solar energy. The bin presses the garbage with this energy. The bin is only gets emptied when it is nearly full. Bins wil never be overcrowded or been emptied when there is almost nothing in it. The Big Belly Solar will help to save money, time and fuel.

Unfortunately, the bin is only in use in some places in the USA currently. I think this area will expend soon.

Why is it cool?
Trash causes many problems in this world. Not just the waste itself, but also the amount of it. We are wasting a lot of money and fuel this time. This problem can be solved in a sustainable way, by solar energy. Sustainability is a trending topic and a major trend currently. I think it is very cool solar energy can provide a better world, on a large scale.

Fridge Unnecessary

It’s all about durability. We have to save the planet before it’s too late!
We started the block living 2 weeks ago, and we are very busy with it now.
We have to create a concept to keep the school clean and pleasant, in a environment friendly way. So I was looking for some products in the durability branche, when I found this amazing concept!

What is it?
The project is named ‘Save food from the Refrigerater’ and found by the designer Jihyun Ryou.

He has created a system to store food outside the fridge. It saves energy, and at the same time it looks nice. The idea is to preserve food wrapped in a design item, which is also environment friendly. This is also the best way to store  the food, food isn’t made to put in the fridge and it can increase the quality dramatically.

For example: There is a shelf for the preservation of vegetables, which you have to put in a little layer of sand. You can add some water trough a funnel. There is also a shelf for eggs. You can fill this one up with water, and if the egg sinks it’s fresh, when it keep floating it isn’t.

Ryou thinks that people have to consider more about the escesive use of energy and wasting food. He wants to use his project to make people care about food and energy wastage. His goal is to create new traditions and rituals in this subjects, so we can change our food and energy habits.

Why is it cool?
I like the combination of design and durability. This projects shows that durability isn’t a dull subject. It brings awareness about food en energy wasting in the society. It is the best option to keep your food fresh so you don’t have to waste it. And above all, it looks very nice!

Lego wigs

What is it?
These inspiring wigs are made by Elroy Klee. She took beauty to the next level by using Lego. This pictures are part of an advertisement campaign in Vogue.
Elroy Klee is a Dutch pro in graphic design. He has 15 years experience working for large companies such as Grolsch, FC Twente and the municipality of Amsterdam. She has sent to the HKU, School of the Arts in Utrecht.

Why is this cool?
They just have one color, but show of very realistic. Elroy used just one color in a wig, but the intent of it is very clear. I think the meaning of this advertising is that wigs do not have to be boring and can even contain design. Simple and classy at the same time, and that all, made of Lego.

What is it?
Dollar shave club is an amazing website where you can get razors for a very low price. Shaving is against high prices on brands, so here you can choose different types of razors, from $1 per month. High quality, low pricing.

Why is it cool?
This is an stunt full of humor against the prices of branded products, which are only expensive because of the brand. Dollar shave club wants to show the difference and they want you to know that it isn’t cool to buy only expensive brand stuff. The website is perfect, and the promotional film which you can see here is hilarious, which works as an real teaser to join the club.
